Navi Mumbai Airport Launches

Navi Mumbai Airport Launch, December 25

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to commence commercial operations on December 25, significantly expanding aviation and logistics capacity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

In its first phase, the airport will handle 0.5 million tonnes of cargo per year, with capacity rising to 3.25 million tonnes in subsequent phases, positioning NMIA as a major air cargo hub for pharmaceuticals, perishables, and manufacturing exports.

Developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL)—a joint venture between MIAL and CIDCO—the greenfield airport will help decongest Mumbai’s existing airport and operate as the region’s second aviation gateway.

Advanced automation, sustainability-focused design, and modern cargo systems are expected to reduce turnaround times. Enhanced road connectivity and proposed metro links will further strengthen access, supporting trade growth, employment, and long-term economic development.
