Indian Railways Freight Corridor Sets Record as JNPT Link Nears Completion
Indian Railways has achieved a record high in freight movement on its Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network, underscoring its role as a faster, more reliable and cost-efficient logistics backbone. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) recorded the highest-ever single-day freight interchange, driven by improved traffic planning, digital signalling, and tighter coordination across railway zones.
Better train sequencing and yard management have reduced congestion on conventional routes, improved turnaround times, and freed capacity for passenger services. The milestone comes as the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor nears full readiness, with the critical 102-km JNPT–Vaitarna section expected to be commissioned by March.
Once operational, it will enable seamless high-capacity freight movement between India’s largest port and key inland markets, lowering logistics costs and strengthening supply chain reliability.
