Anantnag Station Kicks Off Freight Services on USBRL, Enhancing Kashmir’s Trade Links
In a major boost to Kashmir’s trade connectivity, the Northern Railway has approved freight operations at Anantnag station on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (USBRL), effective immediately.
This is the first time cargo movement has been allowed on the USBRL. The station will handle all commodities except petroleum products daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., enabling faster and more reliable transport for Valley businesses.
Freight trains will cross the Chenab and Anji bridges, linking Anantnag with supply hubs nationwide, cutting transit time and costs.
The move is expected to ease winter disruptions, allowing direct delivery of goods like foodgrains, cement, and fertilisers. Local industries have welcomed the decision as transformative for horticulture, handicrafts, and overall economic growth.
