Meghalaya First Outbound Freight Rake via NFR
The Northeast Frontier Railway marked a milestone by dispatching Meghalaya’s first full outbound freight rake from Mendipathar station. A coal consignment of 42 wagons was loaded and sent to Bihar, integrating Meghalaya into India’s rail freight network.
Mendipathar, the state’s only railway station, has steadily expanded freight handling since early 2025. Railways expect the move to boost the state’s economy by improving connectivity, lowering logistics costs, and supporting local industries, especially in remote and hilly regions.
