DFC Boost Cuts India’s Logistics Costs by 6%, Boosting Freight Efficiency
India’s Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) have reduced national logistics costs from around 14% to 8–9% of GDP, driving major efficiency gains and boosting industrial competitiveness.
Rail freight, at ₹1.96 per km, remains the most economical mode, reinforcing a shift from costlier, high-emission road transport.
The Western DFC, now 93.2% complete, is nearing full commissioning, with the Vaitarna–JNPT link in its final phase. Once complete, train operations are expected to rise from 386 to 440 per day, with average speeds reaching 75 km/h.
DFCs, covering just 4% of India’s rail network, now handle 13.4% of total freight, marking a pivotal step toward a faster, greener, and more cost-effective logistics ecosystem.
