Approvals for Chinese Imports

India Set to Restart Approvals for Chinese Imports

India is set to lift its five-year freeze on Chinese imports, marking a major policy shift aimed at easing supply chain bottlenecks and boosting domestic industries. The freeze, imposed after the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, had restricted approvals for imports from China through strict certification rules and delayed clearances.

The government now plans to fast-track pending import proposals, review certification mandates, and allow greater flexibility for sectors like electronics, steel, and consumer goods. However, strategic sectors such as telecom and surveillance equipment will remain under tight scrutiny.

The move aligns with recent GST cuts and aims to balance economic growth, supply stability, and national security considerations.
